Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer Spoilers!!!! Review by Bam I’ve just got to say it. I enjoyed the hell out of this movie. The Claw and I went to the Arc Light's Cinerama Dome to catch a Sunday evening screening. We got a lot more than we were expecting especially because the first movie skewed to the age 4 to 8 crowd. What we got was an different trimmed down version of the truly classic Fantastic four series “The Coming of Galactus” (FF issues 48-50 in case you are interested.) mixed in with the equally awesome marriage of Reed and Sue storm ( All the madness without all the other superheroes.) as well as the Doom/ Power cosmic incident (from FF issue 57) Since Reed Richards and the Silver Surfer are the major focus of those stories, the Director Tim Story had a lot of latitude with the other three heroes and Doom. Even with freaky contacts Jessica Alba is sure easy to look at. The comments she delivered after Reed Richards is caught at his bachelor party were amazing. Johnny Storm’s power cosmic foibles make for an interesting situation . I was pleasantly surprised about the super-skrull impression. ( That one was for the comic fans.) Michael Chlikis' Thing had classic interactions with Chris Evans’ Torch that really captured the best of the feel of the comic. I must say the choice of the Doug Jones and Freaking Lawrence Fishburne as the actor/ voice of the silver surfer was spot on. I can imagine Morpheus … err the surfer philosophizing the hell that is war or human nature before getting into a fight with comic villains Thanos or Annihilus in a great comic book movie. Perhaps we could even get a movie series based off the recent and spectacular annihilation comics. Damn that would be as cool as the Supermax prison movie with the Green Arrow Warner Brothers has planned. There were some detractors getting all pissy about some of the changes. After watching the movie, I didn’t really get upset that doom was outside of his armor for most of the movie or that the big G was a storm cloud. Those were the rules laid down for the movie universe and so be it. Just go in there realizing that you are watching a movie with some hokey moments and you will have a great time.
